A Little Bit About Messmate

Messmate is an Australian hardwood native to Tasmania, Victoria, the tablelands of New South Wales and southern Queensland. It has been known to grow to 90 metres tall, with a trunk up to three metres in diameter. The timber can vary in colour from pale browns through to light yellows with subtle hints of peach, it is a species rich and warm in detail with an even texture. The sometimes interlocking, straight grains feature beautifully defined growth rings, knots and gum veins are quite common giving Messmate a unique grain pattern.

Messmate is often sold with mountain ash as Tasmanian oak, Messmate Stringybark, Australian Oak, Tasmanian Oak or Victorian Messmate.
